Experiences make you happier than things

Most people are in some way in search of happiness. Many are thinking that one can buy happiness. For a period of time that may work and in the process people often decide to rather buy some material thing because of cource it makes you happy for longer, right? Wrong! People get used to things very quickly and the more you adapt to a certain thing, the less happy it will make you.

Studies have found that experiences make you happier than things in the long run. “One of the enemies of happiness is adaptation” says Dr. Thomas Gilovich, a psychology professor at Cornell University, who has been studying the question of money and happiness for over two decades.

So instead of buying the new iPhone or the latest BMW, maybe you should rather invest your money in experiences. Also shared experiences form a connection between people and thus will make you even more happy. You can talk to someone about the shared experience even in years to come and relive that moment in your memory.
